Photerra is a map of observations — every pin is a photograph someone took standing there. On a phone that opens, that map gets room. Closed, Photerra is the map you carry in one hand. Open, it is the same map, the same spot and the same plan, across the whole inner display.
In testing now, ahead of the iPhone Duo's October 23 release. This line changes when the update is on the App Store and Google Play.
Nothing you were doing is lost.
Open the phone mid-search and the search is still typed. Open it on a spot and the spot is still there, its photograph now as wide as the display. Close it and everything comes back to the outer display with your place kept. The app never restarts to change shape.
The map fills the display.
Closed or open, the map runs edge to edge. The photo tiles re-flow to the width they have, the road-trip map and the reveal map draw to the window they are in, and the spot sheet spans it.
Text stays the size you know.
A wider display shows more map and more photographs, not bigger words. Type and controls stay the size they are on a phone, so opening and closing never makes you re-find anything.
A wider, shorter phone.
The iPhone Duo's outer display is wider and shorter than an iPhone's, and the system moves its own controls to the side to keep the height for content. Photerra's layout is the one it has always had — the map on top, the spot sheet below, one thumb — and it fills that display the same way.

Every photograph on Photerra was taken by a person who was standing there. The inner display is the best place we have ever had to show one: a spot page opens with its photograph across the width, a day's plan reads without scrolling, and the map around a pin shows more of the streets you will walk.
Galaxy Z Fold, Pixel Fold: the same rule.
The app follows the window. Unfold, and the map and the photographs take the inner display. Fold, and they come back to the cover display with your place kept. That is the whole rule, and it is the same rule on every foldable, so there is nothing to set up and nothing to switch on.

When the phone stands half open, Photerra does not move anything away from the fold yet — the map runs across it. Photos and sheets that avoid the crease come later.

The layout we want for the inner display is two panes: the map on one side, the photographs and the plan on the other. Today the open phone gets the phone layout, wider. Two panes is the next step, not a promise with a date.

Controls down the side.
The iPhone Duo puts toolbars and tab bars along the edge of the display. Photerra's own bars keep their usual places for now; adopting the side arrangement arrives with a later update.

Does Photerra work on iPhone Duo?
Yes. Photerra is available on the App Store and runs on iPhone Duo today. The update that makes it follow the window is in testing ahead of October 23: on the outer display it is the Photerra you already know, and when the phone opens, the map, the photographs and the plan fill the inner display and keep following it as you fold and unfold — the spot you had open stays open.
Does Photerra work on Galaxy Z Fold and Pixel Fold?
Yes. Photerra is on Google Play and runs on Galaxy Z Fold and Pixel Fold today. The same update, in testing now, makes it follow the window: the cover display gets the phone layout, the inner display gets the full-width map and photographs, and folding keeps your place.
Do I need a separate Photerra app for a foldable phone?
No. One app, one account, one map. There is no tablet or foldable edition and nothing to switch on: the same app reads the window it is in, and the update in testing lays it out for whatever shape that window has.
